One of our specialties here at Russell Eyecare & Associates is post-brain injury vision care. Vision dysfunctions are common amount those people with a brain injury. The vision system, the vascular and neural network of the brain, and the dynamics of head trauma all contribute to the high incidence of vision problems after a brain injury. Since activities of daily living involve effective integration of visual information processing and visual motor performance, the person with a brain injury is frequently handicapped as a consequence of disruption in the visual system.
A significant number of patients with a brain injury will present with signs and symptoms which indicate a vision problem. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

Eye turn

Closing or covering one eye
Reduced ability to sustain attention on visual tasks
Head tilts or turns
Bumping into objects
Dizziness
Abnormal posture

Balance and coordination problems

Confusion related to visual tasks
Reduced ability to accurately
Difficulty reading localize objects
We will evaluate our patients with a variety of tactics including but not limited to the following:
Comprehensive eye and vision examinations
Extended sensorimotor evaluation
Higher cerebral function assessment of visual information processing
Low vision evaluation
Extended visual field evaluation
Electrodiagnostic testing
